Week 5 Wednesday – The Fatal Police Shootings in the United States: A Glimpse over the data analysis

As in the first blog of project 2, I would like to emphasise on the datasets which is based on the police shootings published by The Washington Post. On an average, it is clearly mentioned that police in the United States shoot and kill more than 1000 people every year.

As far as I looked up in the dataset, I can conclude that the data is from 2015 till date and it is getting updated once in every week. The dataset is having 12 columns listed as date, name, age, gender, armed, race, city, state, flee, body camera, sign of mental illness, and police department involved.

While I was seeking for the key factors, I found that the number of fatal police shooting has risen slightly in the recent years. The highest number of killing on record by the police is in year 2022. One more key feature is that the Black Americans are killed at a much higher rate than White Americans but the highest number of killings is of White/Non-Hispanic. Another factor is that the age group between 30-34 are the highest in numbers and more than half of the people is in between 20-40 are shot and killed.

Furthermore, I will emphasise more on the datasets specially on the variables where I can conclude some essential remarks in my analysis.
